Mr. Urdu Text, thank you for your contribution in Punjabi Wikipedia. Punjabi Wikipedia represents Punjabi language, and we are doing our best to use Punjabi words as it is their first right, if we cont search a Punjabi word we will try to search for from the rich past of Punjabi language. Thank you Mr Urdu Text for your consideration about pronunciation problem. It was one of the earlier issues we faced and I have pondered about it. You can read it on some page my comments that we will not allow pronunciation issue to hamper our speed. Well while writing I did my best to write a word the way people speak it. I want to copy the word most accurately. Perhaps you know, it is generally considered that gurmukhi script of Punjabi is better to represent Punjabi words. To demolish this view and to prove that arabic script can represent punjabi sounds well, I tried to copy words in arabic script as they are spoken.
In our earlier stage I even went to some University deans and PhDs in Punjabi (due to obvious reasons I will not mention names) to get some help in this matter and they surprised me by asking me that who is funding my project and if any body would work on this project what would be paid to him. I told them it is total vountairly job and I am doing it just as a service to my mother tongue. No help. I talked about this issue to Anwar Masood, Punjabi's top most poet, my friend and elder and guide while writing this wikipedia. I discussed his book Akhian da Mela where Punjabi words are written in Urdu way but when he reads these poems he pronounces them differently. He accepted this problem and asked me to do if I can. Nothing I found standard. On different places different spellings were present. In other countries there are language bodies that keep eye on their language. Our Punjabi is orphan in this respect. A problem came when Urdu speaking imposed their words too on Punjabi. So often we Punjabi have to read an urdu word but pronounce it in Punjabi..is it not odd ? Why not we write exact punjabi word in the first place. This phenomenon happened in the middle of 19th century. Punjab proved a very hard nut to crack for the britishers and it was the last area came under british empire in the sub continent. To deprive of its identity the britshers introduced Urdu here and imported so many urdu teachers that Maulana Hali observed a shortage of Urdu teachers in Utterperdesh. And naturally those teachers imposed their own words which often create problems for us.
To lessen the confusion if a city or place has more than one pronunciation, I used both or all the pronunciations, perhaps you have observed it. I am a democratic person I wish to absorb all differences or will do utmost. Last year for 10 days I was in Istanbul, Turkey for a visit. My hotel manager always pronounce 'Turk' as 'Turch'. A rug merchant, whose shop I regularly visited he was from Sivas a town in central Turkey, his wife he introduced to me was from Istanbul and his one regular friend was a Crimean Tatar Turk, all three have different Turkish accents and differences but standard Turk language was binding them. Punjab too offer varities, it will be a task to unite all on this wikipedia.
I have a desire to add some words' sound pronunciations too if possible. Well in a nutshell we should present here written Punjabi that is nearest to the spoken Punjabi. Thanks --Khalid Mahmood 17:11, 22 ستمبر 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the detailed account of the matter. In view of these differences, it would be best to start the sister wiktionary project so that the spellings can be standardized with input from the community (which at present seems to be 3-4 people). --Urdutext 22:16, 22 ستمبر 2009 (UTC)
- To address this issue and have a Punjabi dictionary, I started a Punjabi Wiktionary,[۳] but our more attention was on Wikipedia. We came into the normal net world in the middle of August .Gradually the siutation will ameliorate Khalid Mahmood 07:59, 26 ستمبر 2009 (UTC).

پہلی ببات تو یہ کہ پنجابی ویکی پر 3000 آرٹیکلز توں 17 ستمبر کے لگ بھک ہی مکمل ہو گئے تھے اور اس کے بعد بھی بے شمار (کم از کم 300) کے قریب آرٹیکلز لکھے جا چکے ہیں ۔ لیکن صفحہ اول پر صرف 2600 سے کچھ اوپر شو ہو رہے ہیں ؟ کیوں؟
دوسری بات کیٹاگری بنانا اب بھی وہی مسئلہ ہے ، کیونکہ پنجابی ویکی پر اس کا کوئی بنانے کا بٹن نہیں ہے جیسے کہ اردو ویکی پر ہے ( جب ـپ کوئی نیا آرٹیکل لکھتے ہیں توں وہاں کٹاگری یا زمرہ کا خانہ ہوتا ہے اس پر کلک کرنے سے آرٹیکل میں کیٹاگری یا زمرہ خودبخود بن جاتا اور آپ اپنی مرضی سے اس میں نام لکھ سکتے ہیں )۔ اب آپ یہ مدد کریں کہ کونسا فارمولا یا لفظ لکھ کر اس کو پنجابی ویکی پر آرٹیکل لکھتے وقت بنایا جا سکتا ہے ۔ جیسے آپ نے پہلے بتایا تھا اس طرح تو آرٹیکل میں ویسا ہی لکھا آ جاتا ہے ،کیٹاگری نہیں بنتی ۔
تیسری بات اگر آپ HTMLلینگوئیج جانتے ہیں تو برائے مہربانی آپ پنجابی ویکی کی دیکھ بھال کریں ۔ آرٹیکل لکھنا کوئی مسئلہ نہیں ہے ، وہ میں لکھ دیا کروں گا ، آپ صرف ان ارٹیکلز میں تصاویر وغیرہ اور دوسرے چھوٹے موٹے کام کر دیا کریں ۔--119.154.30.100 09:33, 6 دسمبر 2009 (UTC)
